Community resources

Because INTERFORM sees the social issues of our times as barriers to belonging across many intersectional groups, we want to recommit ourselves to providing resources, a space for discussion, and support.

INTERFORM has joined a coalition of community organizations to speak out about issues important to building a welcoming community where we can all belong. Because INTERFORM sees the social issues of our times as barriers to belonging across many intersectional groups, we want to recommit ourselves to providing resources, a space for discussion, and support.

As an organization committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community for our children, families, and neighbors, we are eager to participate in, facilitate, and/or support a dialogue about better ways forward. We do so by recognizing that there are no simple discussions and that there are difficult and painful divides between us. A gulf of misunderstanding lies between anti-abortion activists and supporters of female autonomy, between the pro-gun lobby and Americans eager for increased safety in our homes and in our schools, and between those that have seen the on-going devastation that white-supremacy has wreaked on our society and those unwilling to address these hard truths.

In order to create a sustained dialogue, INTERFORM is making the following commitments:

    • Commit to Reproductive Health: We commit to reviewing our internal HR policies to create opportunities for full personhood within our organization, to protect choice, to protect privacy, and to demonstrate value to our staff. We also agree to make these policies public as an example to our fellow businesses and organizations to learn and lead from. We will also work directly with Ozark Circle for Choice as a guide and partner, to uplift their work, to help us hone our messaging, and to provide help where we can. More action items will be added to our website as we go.
    • Commit to Public Safety: We commit to working with internal and external policy to identify community based, social, and economic disincentives in relationship to gun ownership, and especially towards the ownership of semi-automatic assault rifles. We understand we alone may be unable to change this conversation at the legislative level, but we believe that we can chip away at the social incentives for this on-going public health crisis. We will also work directly with Moms Demand Action as a guide and partner, to respect the work they have been doing for years before us and will continue to do the work for years to come. We hope to provide amplification and visibility to opportunities to lean in and support organizations fighting for direct change in the gun reform conversation.
    • Commit to Social Change: We commit to keeping the conversation about white-supremacy alive, call it when we see it, and continue to be on the forefront of social change around it. Until we solve for white supremacy at a systems level all other inequities are able to continue to multiply and divide us. Our work at INTERFORM surrounding representation, social engagement, and creating economic opportunities is directly connected to our desire for systemic change. We will continue to do our best to change what we can, and help others identify opportunities for growth.

We welcome those interested in participating in this conversation to reach out to us. While we ourselves are not a social services organization, nor are we a single topic advocacy organization, we are community members dedicated to the health and happiness of the communities we live in. Positive change requires our collective participation and effort.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD RESOURCES

Where can I get the abortion pill?

You can get medication abortion (AKA abortion pills) from many Planned Parenthood health centers. Our caring doctors and nurses are experts at providing safe abortion and non-judgmental support throughout the process. Even if your local Planned Parenthood health center doesn’t provide the abortion pills, you can call for more information about where to get it.

When looking for a place to get an abortion, beware of “crisis pregnancy centers.” These fake clinics seem like medical centers that offer abortions or other pregnancy options, but they’re actually run by people who want to scare or shame people out of getting an abortion.

Depending on where you live, there may be restrictions if you’re 17 years old or younger, or waiting periods to get an abortion. You can ask about these when you call your doctor or your nearest Planned Parenthood health center.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Roe v. Wade — the 1973 decision that stated that state regulation of abortion was unconstitutional — the right to bodily autonomy is under threat in many parts of the U.S.

But if you’re reading this, you likely knowAbortion bans don’t stop people from getting abortions. That means that people in those states banning abortion who can get pregnant are going to need to start traveling to have (or sending away for) abortions. And those travel costs (not to mention the cost of abortion itself) are going to start adding up.

In the absence of federal protections, it’s time to start digging up support wherever we can — including the private sector. Many companies — big and small — have already started announcing their intentions to reimburse or cover employees for travel and other costs incurred while seeking an abortion out-of-state.

Of course, corporate abortion travel benefits are not the permanent solution. Nationwide, legal abortion is. The privatization of abortion access as a long-term fix will only increase economic inequality. Still, mutual aid abortion funds shouldn’t be the only ones subsidizing this nightmarish period. Corporations have a lot of concentrated resources that can and should be used to keep employees and their families safe and healthy, if not because it’s the right thing to do, then because it makes business sense. (Plus, this is what company-subsidized health insurance is for.)

In fact, access to abortion and other reproductive health care isn’t just a right — it’s also an economic imperative, not just for the person receiving it but for the economy at large.

Here are some basics to help you (and likeminded colleagues — you’re definitely not alone on this one) persuade your employer to add policies that help people access reproductive health to its list of benefits.

RESOURCES FROM ARKANSAS ABORTION SUPPORT NETWORK

ARKANSAS BASED ABORTION SUPPORT

Arkansas Abortion Support Network

From their website:

Founded in April of 2016, Arkansas Abortion Support Network (AASN) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to reduce barriers to abortion access in Arkansas.

AASN is comprised of three arms: Arkansas Clinic Escorts (ACE), Abortion Services of Arkansas (ASA), and Community Outreach & Education (COE).

ACE provides patient escorting at Arkansas’s only procedural abortion clinic.

ACE volunteer opportunities: patient escorting on Saturdays and various weekdays, for 3-hour shifts covering morning to early afternoon.

ASA provides financial and some logistic support to abortion patients. We provide assistance to cover costs associated with the procedure, travel and lodging, and childcare. We also provide transportation services on a limited basis.

ASA volunteer opportunities: help planning and staffing fundraising events. More to come.

COE will hold and participate in educational and advocacy events. We are also planning to host a monthly peer-led support group for people who have had abortions.

COE volunteer opportunities: help planning and staffing outreach and educational events. More opportunities to come.

We believe that anyone seeking abortion services deserves to do so free from the shame, ridicule, and harassment regularly heaped upon them outside of reproductive healthcare clinics.

We believe that abortion should be accessible regardless of a pregnant person’s economic or social status, or zip code.

We believe in the dignity of pregnant people and the right to make their own decisions about their bodies, without interference from politicians, extremists, or bullies.

This summer is a critical moment for gun safety in the federal arena.

Sign up to join the Summer Action Series to get involved!

There’s a lot going on this summer, and the gun safety movement needs you now more than ever.

Everyone is busy: work doesn’t stop when the summer starts, parents have kids home from school, students have internships or summer jobs, and we’re all trying to soak up the summer sun as much as we can. We get it. That’s why we’re asking you to take just 20 minutes a week this summer to learn about gun safety work in the federal arena and take action.

When you sign up for the Summer Series, you’ll receive just one text message a week that contains a short video and a quick action. Joining the Summer Series is the most efficient way for you to have a big impact, even when your time to act is tight. The videos and actions will always be under 20 minutes combined, and you can complete the action on the spot or wait until you have time to spare.

Collectively, the information that participants of the Summer Series learn and the actions they take will push the gun safety movement forward in a critical moment for our movement.

Dear Senator Cotton,

I am writing to urge you to support expanded background checks to reduce gun violence in the United States. I am begging you to vote to close the deadly loopholes in our laws that make it too easy for dangerous people to get guns.

Background checks are supported by over 90% of all Americans and are a commonsense tool for keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the dangerously mentally ill. Background checks on gun sales are the most effective way to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and help save lives.

It’s time to end the epidemic of gun violence in our country. Thank you for doing what is right for the people of Arkansas and the United States.

Thank you for your hard work,

Support Moms Demand Action – An Guns Sense advocacy group

Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. We pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. We also work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know that gun violence is preventable, and we’re committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.
